Our goal for this project was to balance the clients’ desire to maintain the character of the original cottage with their need for modern, functional living spaces. They wanted to retain and respect the front heritage cottage while incorporating a contemporary rear wing with first floor and basement level to improve amenity for their family. The rear wing was designed to be a contrast to the cottage, featuring clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic.
One of the standout features of the design was the first floor ‘pod’ structures which appear to float over the ground floor level, creating a cloud like effect through clever use of hidden structural members. This added a unique visual element to the home and created a sense of lightness and openness. The basement level was added to provide additional living space for the family, including a games and media room and underground cellar. The central courtyard and pool connects to the core living spaces and enables for a great indoor outdoor living experience. Overall, the project successfully blended the old and new, creating a unique and functional home for our clients’.
